West Virginia Seeks Input On Proposed Health Education Changes

The West Virginia Board of Education is seeking input on proposed changes to health-education content standards for the state's public schools.

Board members voted on Wednesday to place policy revisions up for a 30-day comment period. The changes include incorporating policies that address cardiopulmonary resuscitation instruction and allowing parents to opt their children out of instruction about AIDS and sexually transmitted diseases. The proposed changes also include repealing those policies.

The agency said a team of West Virginia health teachers has reviewed the proposed revisions, which can be viewed on the Department of Education website.
