Wheeling-based Scholastic Sports Marketing has announced the matchups and schedule for its new high school football, marching band and cheerleading event, Wheeling Hospital Football & Band Jamboree.

The two-day affair will showcase eight area football teams as they compete on the gridiron in compelling head-to-head preseason matchups and the schools' marching bands will partake in an exhibition. The cheerleaders will show their support from the sidelines as part of the Spirit Contest.

The Wheeling Hospital Football & Band Jamboree will take place Aug. 17 and 18 at the Wheeling Island Stadium. The inaugural event will include the following high schools: Wheeling Park, Wheeling Central Catholic, Linsly, Harrison Central, John Marshall, St. Clairsville, Magnolia and East Liverpool.

"Our primary mission with the Wheeling Hospital Football & Band Jamboree is to provide a new and positive experience for the youth of our community," said Bill Ihlenfeld II of Scholastic Sports Marketing. "The Jamboree will also serve as a fundraiser for nonprofit organizations and the involved Ohio Valley schools."
