Special Response Team Provided Security For Parker, Broderick Babies

Members of the Ohio County Sheriff's Office provided security to a surrogate mother as she delivered Sarah Jessica Parker and Matthew Broderick's twins last week.

The special response team personnel were contracted to work security detail at East Ohio Regional Hospital in Martins Ferry when the celebrity couple's daughters were born.

The five-man team was told only that they were needed for a special job, but Chief Deputy Drage Flick said plans were in the works early.

"Sarah Jessica and Matthew's personal assistant came into Wheeling a couple of weeks ago. We met with them, drove the routes, walked through the hospital -- just sort of started developing (and) going through our pre-planning," Flick said.

In the meantime, Martins Ferry Police Chief Barry Carpenter remains under investigation in connection with possible wrongdoing against the surrogate.

Carpenter previously confirmed to NEWS9 he is under investigation and said he is facing allegations that he said are simply untrue. NEWS9 has been trying for weeks to obtain documents about the allegations, but the documents have not been made public.

Carpenter has not elaborated on the allegations against him, but said both he and his department are innocent of any wrongdoing when it comes to the surrogate mother. The chief said he expects the investigation to prove that.

Harrison County Prosecutor Shawn Hervey, who is a special prosecutor assigned to the case, had not released any new information about the investigation as of Tuesday.

Carpenter remains on the job while the investigation continues.
