Salad Bar Helps Bellaire Middle School Students Get Fit
Students at Bellaire Middle School are choosing the healthier menu options and made the choice all on their own.Bellaire Middle School students have a new addition to their lunch menu, a brand new six-foot-long salad bar filled with cheeses, meats, veggies and more.“This is part of the Healthy Living, Get Fit initiative we’re going here,” said Miss Robbins, the school’s media writing teacher.“The best part, the students are the ones who not only asked for it…but bought it too,” she said.“Students were asking for salads and there was no way of getting salad to them so we made the decision to buy the portable salad bar,” she said. The “we” the teacher is referring to is a group of girls, her media writing class, that made the $2,000 purchase all on their own as their annual gift to the school.Student Madi Kinder said she’s really happy that it was the hard work and fundraising of her class that paid off.“It’s real good to feel that you can help kids lose weight and feel real good about themselves,” she said.Students seemed to like it too and one even called it a “fun and nutritious way for them to lose weight.”
