A day at the pool can be a great way to get fit in the summer months.Swimming and aquatic exercise have many benefits, said Judy Owings, of Trinity Health System's Trim For Life."It has such benefits, not only the weight loss and the decrease in stress, but it adds flexibility and even improves your balance," Owings said.Dominic Duco heads to the Mingo Pool every week as he recovers from knee replacement surgery."I had an accident years ago, and the water is the best exercise you can do," Duco said.Carol McKee said she walks in the pool for an hour every day."I have had three foot surgeries. It is very difficult to walk on the ground, but in this water, I can walk beautiful with no pain whatsoever," McKee said.Owings said there are many people like Duco and McKee who benefit from water fitness."Those that often can't exercise outside the water can do so inside the water. They get really good range in motion," Owings said. She said it's important for people to play it safe and wear water shoes so they don't slip.
