Going Green Cities - Smithfield Township

DILLONVALE -- The Smithfield Township trustees hold a tire collection every year near the end of May.

Only tires with no rims are accepted. Last year more than 6,000 tires were collected in a two-day period in trailers parked at the bottom of the hill on state Route 152 and County Road 10.

Sgt. Buckie Argentine and inmates from the Jefferson County Justice Center helped make the project a success.

Jefferson County Litter Prevention provided the trailers and took the tires to Minerva to be ground up for use for landscaping and road projects.
