STEUBENVILLE, OH -- The Franciscan University of Steubenville will add #1 and #2 plastics, clear and colored glass and metals such as aluminum cans to its recycling efforts beginning in the spring of 2008.The university’s paper recycling program has been successful since it was started in August 2007. Recently some 35,200 pounds of paper were recycled in a recent four-month period.Recycling containers are located in more than 15 campus buildings. Student workers collect the recycled paper and cardboard and separate it. The recycled items are then taken to Valley Converting in Toronto for recycling.Profits from the recycling effort are donated by Keep Jefferson County Beautiful Program to Jefferson County parochial schools that also participate in the recycling program.
