Shred To Save A Success

More than 100 people brought documents, which resulted in a total of 4,000 pounds of paper being shredded during the Belco Works "Shred To Save" event on April 26, officials announced.

"That's 2 tons of paper that was kept out of our landfills," said Pamela McCort, communications coordinator for the Belmont County Board of Developmental Disabilities.

The "Shred to Save" event was planned to coincide with Arbor Day in April and was aimed at increasing the public’s awareness of the environmental benefits of recycling and of the document shredding service provided by Belco Works at its facility at 340 Fox-Shannon Place and with its mobile shredding unit.

Jefferson-Belmont Regional Solid Waste Authority and the Belmont Soil and Water Conservation District helped sponsor the event.

Belco Works offers confidential collection, shredding and disposal of business and personal documents both at the 340 Fox-Shannon Place location and through its mobile shredding service.

All shredded materials are sent for recycling. Belco Works shredded and recycled more than 210,000 pounds of documents in 2007, saving more than 1,300 trees, according to Arbor Day Foundation statistics, officials said.
