Going Green Can Save You Green

With the cost of utilities, gasoline, food and much more increasing, the concept of "going green" is becoming overwhelmingly popular.

According to recent reports from the Environmental Protection Agency, going green can help people save some green.

Firstly, replacing light bulbs with ecofriendly models can help people use up to 70 percent less energy.

Not only that, but the newer bulbs are said to last up to 10 times longer and help people save around $30 over the light bulbs life.

Even carpooling and speed reduction while driving can help folks save money according to Consumer Reports.

Driving less frequently, more slowly and more evenly is said to cut an individuals carbon dioxide emissions by about 1,500 pounds a year and save a little more than $200 annually.

"Ultimately we're going to save a lot of money by recycling instead of just pitching it and putting it into Dumpsters," said Belmont County Commissioner Mark Thomas.

Also, buying a thermostat that will electrically control a homes heat and central air could save an individual at least $150 to $180 a year and conserve electricity.

Replacing old faucets and shower heads in a home can help use less water, and it's also said to save an individual the cost of up to 30,000 gallons of water according to Consumer Reports.
