Brooke County Expands Recycling Program To Include Plastics
The Brooke County Solid Waste Authority drop off recycling program is now accepting plastics 1 and 2. There should be a number 1 or number 2 inside a recycling triangle symbol on the bottom of the container. No other numbers can be accepted.Typical No. 1 plastic include: clear/green beverage bottles, water, soda sports drink bottles, 2-liter drink bottles and some cleaning product bottles. Typical No. 2 plastics include milk jugs, laundry detergent bottles, some shampoo and cleaning product bottles. The authority does not accept: No. 3 through No. 7 plastics, plastic bags of any type, Styrofoam of any type, plastic plates, utensilsor bubble wrap.The Brooke County Solid Waste Authority Recycling Program is still accepting aluminum and steel (tin) cans. Acceptable cans consist of; beer, juice, pet food, sports drinks, soda, soup, tuna, and vegetable cans.People should remove and discard tops and rings, and briefly rinse bottles and cans and flatten bottles. It is OK to leave on the labels.The drop-off locations are in Bethany on College and Richardson Street, in Follansbee at Follansbee Middle School and Hooverson Heights Primary School and in Wellsburg at Brooke High School, Wellsburg Middle School, and on 12th and Yankee streets behind Rite Aid. The Brooke County Solid Waste Authority Recycling Center is now open for residents to drop off recyclables from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday through Friday.The Brooke County Solid Waste Authority was recently awarded a FY 2009 West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection REAP Covered Electronics Grant for $20,000 and will sponsor a Covered Electronic Events in April of 2010.
