Pink ribbons serve as a reminder that October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. And with so many people affected by the disease, you can be proactive to reduce your risk of getting it."Several studies show that people who do regular exercise remain much more healthy as well as cancer free as compared to those who do not regularly exercise," said Dr. Nadeen Ikhlaqu, of Ohio Valley Medical Center.Ikhlaqu said watching your diet can also help reduce the risk of breast cancer."Include fresh fruit and vegetables, including things which have more antioxidants. (Those) prove to be beneficial," Ikhlaqu said.Topping diet and exercise, one of the biggest risk factors is smoking. Ikhlaqu said smoking is a huge factor in developing any kind of cancer, including breast cancer."Stop smoking. (It's the) No. 1 association factor that we can see with all kinds of cancer," Ikhlaqu said. For more information, visit our special Breast Cancer Awareness section.
