Barnesville senior-to-be Stephanie Morgan is the 2007-08 Gatorade Ohio Female Track and Field Athlete of the Year. The award recognizes not only high standards of academic achievement, but also high standards or academic achievement and exemplary character on and off the track. Morgan has maintained 3.3 grade point average while achieving tremendous success on the track. She recently wrapped up her junior season at the state meet in Columbus, winning both the 800 and 1600 meter runs. Morgan set the state record in the 800 with a time of 2:09.87. Earlier this spring, she produced the top mile time in the nation by a girls high school runner this season, winning the Penn Relays in 4:41.2. This weekend, Morgan will again compete at the national level, in the USA Outdoor Junior Nationals in Columbus. Morgan's statewide honor qualifies her for the Gatorade National Girls Track and Field Athlete of the Year, announced in late June.
