Columbiana County Coach Accused Of Rewarding Football Players With Cash

An East Liverpool High School football coach is under investigation for allegedly rewarding players with cash based on their athletic performance.Principal Jack Cunningham said the school district is investigating the allegations that Coach Pat McNichol has been paying players for good performance on the field.Cunningham said he is taking the accusations seriously and is consulting an attorney.An assistant commissioner at the Ohio High School Athletic Association said, according to by-laws regarding compensation, players can receive awards valued up to $200. However, he said getting cash could result in a loss of amateur status.McNichol will be with his team when they square off against Wheeling Park at Wheeling Island Stadium Friday night.A news conference is expected to be held later on Friday.
