Louisville, KY -- (Sports Network) - Lightly raced Blame, ridden by Jamie Theriot, rallied down the stretch to win Friday's $460,600 Clark Handicap at Churchill Downs. The three-year-old colt covered the 1 1/8-mile race in 1:49.39.Making just his eighth career start in the 135th running of the Clark, Blame was sent off as the 4-1 second choice to 7-2 favorite Macho Again in the 14 horse field. Defending champ Einstein broke from the far outside post at 5-1. Setting the pace in the Clark was longshot Anarko with Etched running second and Timber Reserve stalking the leaders in third. Running in fourth up the backstretch was Kiss the Kid as defending winner Einstein was running in mid- pack with Blame sitting eighth. Around the turn for home Einstein and Misremembered joined the leaders as Blame began his move on the outside. At the top of the stretch Anak Nakal, Misremembered and Blame were all on the lead as Einstein was splitting horses toward the inside. Trained by Albert Stall, Jr., Blame was five wide coming off the final turn and eventually took the lead with a furlong to run. Misremembered, who had a short lead on the final turn, was unable to pass Blame down the stretch. Theriot urged his mount to a neck victory over three-year-old Misremembered with Einstein coming up short to finish third. Completing the order of finish was Giant Oak, Anak Nakal, Dubious Miss, Bullsbay, Demarcation, Macho Again, Kiss the Kid, You and I Forever, Anarko, Etched and Timber Reserve. Bred and owned by Adele Dilschneider and Claiborne Farm, Blame picked up $259,872 with the win. The colt has won five of his eight starts for $616,747. The three-year-old was coming off a win in the $150,000 Fayette Stakes last month at Keeneland. He was second to Regal Ransom in the $750,000 Super Derby two months ago at Louisiana Downs. He earlier won the Curlin Stakes in August at Saratoga. Blame returned $10.80, $6.00 and $4.20. Misremembered paid $10.20 and $6.40, and seven-year-old Einstein paid $4.60 to show.
