Thursday, August 28, 2008

(Sports Network) - Atlanta Braves reliever Rafael Soriano had successful season-ending surgery on his right elbow on Thursday by Dr. James Andrews in Birmingham, Alabama.

Soriano, who entered the 2008 campaign as the Braves' closer, went 0-1 with a 2.57 earned-run average and three saves in 14 appearances this season.

The 28-year-old had an ulnar nerve transposition and a small bone spur removed from his right elbow and is expected to be ready for spring training next season.
