Phil Jackson Undergoes Hip Replacement

Posted: 3:29 pm EDT June 12, 2007

(Sports Network) - Los Angeles Lakers head coach Phil Jackson underwent successful hip replacement surgery on his left hip on Tuesday, the team announced. The procedure comes eight months after replacing his right hip.

The 61-year-old coach is expected to be released from Centinela Hospital Medical Center in Inglewood within the next 24 hours, according to the team. Jackson, who underwent a right hip replacement on October 3, should be fully recovered by the start of the 2007-08 season.

The Lakers finished 42-40 last season, falling to the Suns in the first round of the playoffs. Jackson, who will be inducted in the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in September, is 919-393 (.700) in 16 seasons as an NBA head coach, the best winning percentage of any coach in NBA history. He was won nine NBA titles, three in his eight seasons as coach of the Lakers, during which he has led LA to a 374-200 record.
