Grizzlies Sign Iranian C Haddadi

(Sports Network) - The Memphis Grizzlies have signed free-agent center Hamed Haddadi, who recently played for the Iranian national team in the 2008 Beijing Olympics.

Haddadi, 23, was the only player in the Olympic games to average a double- double, posting 16.6 points and 11.2 rebounds to go along with 2.6 blocks over five games. His best performance came against Argentina, when he poured in 21 points and grabbed 16 rebounds.

The seven-foot-two, 254-pounder spent the 2007-2008 season playing for Saba Battery BC of the Iranian Super League. Haddadi also participated in the 2008 Rocky Mountain Revue this past July, and averaged 14.0 points, 11.5 rebounds and 2.5 blocks in 25.5 minutes for the Iranian team against NBA competition.
