Police Nab Armed Robbery Suspect In Minutes

Another armed robbery in the Ohio Valley, and this one involved a gun. The robbery happened just before 9 p.m. in Martins Ferry, but just minutes later, police had their man.

The robbery happened at Fredrico's, where police said Johnathan Harris, of Martins Ferry, held the cashier at gunpoint, and demanded cash.

Harris quickly fled, but the cashier was able to record his license number.

Minutes later, the getaway car was spotted just blocks away, at the Kroger, off of Rt. 7. Officers from several local departments stormed into the store with their weapons drawn, and demanded Harris to the ground.

NEWS9 talked with a few people who were in the store grocery shopping while the situation went down, and they said they whole thing was startling.

"He even offered to take my things out of the buggy, and I didn't think anything of it. Then all of the sudden the police came running, pointing guns at him, knocked him to the ground and took him away," said Goldie Craig.

"I saw this girl who works there squatting down to the ground, and said ‘oh my God’. I heard them say 'hold up your hands' and it scared me. I thought if she's going down, I’m going down, something's going on," said Sally Crawford.

Harris was arrested and taken to the Belmont County Jail. Stick with NEWS9, and we’ll be sure to bring you the latest details as soon as they are available.
