Follansbee Man Shot, Another is Beaten in Weirton

Shots were fired in downtown Weirton, W.VA., Saturday, leaving a Follansbee man in a Pittsburgh hospital. Police in Weirton said a fight began in the 3100 block of Main Street around 1:30 a.m.

While patrolling the area, police said they noticed two men lying on a sidewalk. Mike Eckles, 22, was beaten and another man, 29-year-old Shawn Spencer, was shot several times.

Both men were taken to hospitals. Their conditions are unknown at this time.

Through investigating, police believe 25-year-old Chad Beaver of Weirton shot Spencer.

Police found Beaver inside a nearby apartment and arrested him. He will be charged with malicious wounding.

Business owners in Weirton said the violence is shocking, but it will not stop patrons from shopping downtown. One business owner said people should just be more cautious.
