Truck Hits, Kills Mother

A truck hit and killed a young mother from Flushing Friday night.

Gina Veronesi, 28, was pulling out of her boyfriend's driveway off of State Route 331 when the truck stalled.

She asked her boyfriend to help her move it from the middle of the road, but as they were pushing the F250, another truck came down the roadway and hit Veronesi.

Her body was thrown more than 100 feet.

Ohio Highway Patrol said the driver didn't see the black truck in the southbound lane until it was too late.

When he swerved to miss it, he struck Veronesi.

She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Neighbors are showing their support to both families, especially Veronesi's two young girls, ages 9 and 10.

Bonnie Hunphrey, who knows the Veronesi family and the man who hit her, said, "I want to extend our sympathy to both families. I know it's hurting both of them really bad."

OHP wants to give advice to drivers.

Trooper Roger Clark said, "The safest place is either in their car with a seatbelt on or if they decide to get out of the car to get as far away from the roadway as they possibly can."

OHP said you can also keep flares or emergency roadside kits inside your car to help drivers see you if you break down.
