Flood waters in most parts of the Ohio Valley had receded and crews began the cleanup effort Monday. In Belmont County, a flood warning was lifted Monday and many roads including state Route 148 and Trough's Run Road -- though a muddy mess -- were reopened. On Sunday, rapid waters tossed chunks of ice onto the roadways, some up to a foot thick. A bulldozer was called in to clear the road.Cathy Bell, who has lived on Trough's Run for 14 years, said she was ready for the ice jams."We went and got food and water. We already have a generator," Bell said. She said others tried to drive through the large blocks of ice."Why would you drive a vehicle over that? But they do. They try, and ... we come with the four-wheeler and pull them out," Bell said.Creeks and streams throughout the county were flowing fast Monday but were only dotted with pieces of ice.In Powhatan Point, Cats Run Road was closed for most of Monday while crews spent hours clearing the giant ice cubes.
