MARTINS FERRY, Ohio -- Police are investigating an incident that they said could be related to a Wheeling abduction and rape case.Investigators said a man in an extended cab truck approached an 18-year-old woman around 11 p.m. Sunday at Broadway and Jefferson Streets. The woman told police the driver asked her where she was going. Police said when the woman refused to answer, the man became "aggravated."The woman ran to a home on Catawba Street while the man followed her, police said. The woman safely made it into the home and immediately called police.A friend of the victim said she is "pretty confident" the man is the same one who abducted and raped an 11-year-old Wheeling girl about three weeks ago."If it is the same guy, he's playing a dangerous game and he should have been caught the first time. But, he will get caught. He will be found," the friend said.Police said the truck involved in Sunday's incident is different in color that what the FBI described in the Wheeling case. The Martins Ferry woman described the truck as a light color with a dark stripe down the side. The description of the suspect is also slightly different. The Martins Ferry woman said the man was wearing glasses and the shape of his face was slightly different than the sketch of the Wheeling attacker. The victim said the man's hairstyle is the same as the description of the Wheeling attacker. She also said the man who pursued her was in his mid-30s.Randy Habig, who lives nearby, said the neighborhood is usually very quiet."This is a small area. ... This has never really happened around here. It's got a lot of people frustrated," Habig said.He said neighbors typically keep a watchful eye on their children but said, "I can't be out here watching them all the time and neither can the parents. Things happen so quick -- in just an instant."The FBI has not confirmed if the incidents are connected, but Martins Ferry police said that is a possibility and said residents should remain cautious until they have a suspect in custody.Anyone with information is asked to call police.-Renee Cardelli & Amy Post, NEWS9
