One Month Later, Search For Rapist Continues

Tuesday, March 20, 2007 – updated: 11:14 pm EDT March 20, 2007

Tuesday marked four weeks since a Wheeling girl was abducted, raped and released.

Police said they continue to receive tips about her attacker and are following up on those tips by conducting interviews and traveling the Tri-state area.

The 11-year old girl was abducted from a North Wheeling street, taken across state lines to Bridgeport and raped. After the man let her go, the girl ran to a neighbor's house for help.

Since that day, Wheeling police and the FBI have been working around the clock to capture the attacker before someone else becomes a victim. Wheeling Police Chief Kevin Gessler said they won't give up on the search, even if it takes another month.

"We're going to go back through what we already have, we're going to re-do it, and once we're there, we'll do it again," Gessler said.

The chief said he's confident the predator will be caught and said investigators will continue to be meticulous.

The reward amount also grew by $1,000 Tuesday, bringing the total to $18,870.

Anyone with information is asked to call police.
