Rape Victim's Mother Urges Public To Continue Search For Attacker

Posted: 10:24 pm EDT March 20, 2007Updated: 10:47 am EDT March 21, 2007

Tuesday marks one month since a 12-year-old girl was abducted from her Wheeling home, raped, and then released.

The victim’s mother, who did not want to be identified to protect her family, said her little girl is doing as good as can be expected, but is still haunted by that awful night.

“She is having panic attacks and things like that now, but we're working through it,” said the mother. “She's a trooper. She sees her therapist, and we hope that it will help her, but this is hard. It's hard for her and us."

She said her daughter now sleeps near her parents instead of in her room, and is worried the attacker could come back.

That attacker is still on the loose.

The community has teamed up with police to offer a reward that is now at more than $18,000.

The mother said she is thankful for all the support.

"The help for the reward, it's just all been so great,” said the mother. “And I thank everybody who has helped."

She said while she doubts people will forget about the attack, she is still urging anyone with any tips to step forward.

“Please call in,” said the mother. “Even if you don't think it's anything just call in. Call the tip in. What can it hurt?"

If you have any information in the search for the abductor\rapist, you can call 1-900-CALL-FBI.
