Posted: 5:33 pm EDT March 21, 2007Updated: 6:16 pm EDT March 21, 2007

Wild Escape theme park officials said they finished part of their design phase and have permits in the works for park slated to open at the highlands.

Parts of the plans include the design for the children's section called "Junior's Backyard," which will have oversized toys, according to park president Steve Minard. Minard also said they’ve been receiving some of the equipment for rides that will be installed in the park.

The company said there are some environmental issues involved in the process, like mild contamination in the area from when it was an active mine, which they plan to correct with the county.

The company doesn't have an opening day scheduled, but said they will have a better idea as the development continues.
