FBI Questions Man In Connection With Child's Abduction, Rape

More than a month after a Wheeling girl was abducted, raped and released, police are questioning a registered sexual offender about the attack.

David Lawrence Dixon, 41, of Sharpsburg, was arrested in Dubois, Pa., on March 20 and faces six charges for allegedly sexually assaulting a 5-year-old girl in a Richland Township, Pa., parking lot.

Investigators with the FBI said they have investigated hundreds of leads in the Wheeling case and said David Dixon is now among those leads.

Dixon is being held without bond at the Allegheny County Jail in connection with the assault of the 5-year-old. He has not been charged in connection with the Feb. 18 abduction and rape in Wheeling.

Police said the 5-year-old child's family considered Dixon a friend and were unaware that he was a Megan’s Law offender.

Police put out a warrant for his arrest after allegations he sexually assaulted the 5-year-old girl in his vehicle. The child’s mother had left the girl in Dixon's care.

Pennsylvania Northern Regional police and the Western Pennsylvania Fugitive Task Force searched for Dixon for four days prior to the arrest.

When the Western Pennsylvania Fugitive Task Force found him in Dubois, Dixon was hiding under a bed in an apartment leased in his brother's name.

Police said Dixon was in a green truck when the Pennsylvania girl was allegedly assaulted, but said Dixon is known to drive several different vehicles including an older red truck, and older gray or silver truck, and a blue or forest green commercial-style van.

Dixon is scheduled to appear in court Friday.
