Controversial Weirton Bed And Breakfast To Reopen

Posted: 4:23 pm EDT April 18, 2007Updated: 7:03 pm EDT April 18, 2007

A judge ruled Wednesday that a Weirton bed and breakfast can reopen under certain conditions.

Rosemont Manor, also known as Our House on the Hill, can reopen but cannot provide any services advertised on its Web site that the city says promotes fetish, swingers, nudists and S&M.

The judge said his decision will remain in effect until the court makes a final ruling.

The city of Weirton shut down the business because it said the bed and breakfast violated zoning codes.

The facility -- which also caters weddings, graduations and other events -- has been controversial in the past because the city said it doubles as a place for alternative lifestyles.

The city contends the Web site for Our House on the Hill promotes activities that violate zoning codes. The judge also ordered that the establishment remove that Web site for now.

John Yeager, attorney for the city of Weirton, said he was pleased with the judge's decision.

"I think that's good because that's advertising something we never agreed that they could do," Yeager said.

The businesses' owner, Rose Susko, previously filed the civil lawsuit against the city and said she's not breaking any laws.

Neither Susko nor her attorney would comment after the hearing Wednesday.
