The Marshall County School District has added 20 new Automated External Defibrillators, or AEDs, to locations all over the district.

School officials said some of their schools are almost an hour away from a hospital. The AEDs could help revive someone who’s in cardiac arrest before an ambulance arrives.

The district’s technology coordinator, Bill Burrall, said there is a need for the AEDs on Marshall County’s school sites, with more than 100 students and staff who have cardiac problems.

The AEDs cost about $1,500 each. School officials said the cost for all 20 AEDs and replacement parts is about $35,000. Burrall said the district’s Office of Technology and the Board of Education will fund the cost.
