Four Suspected Illegals Detained in Ohio County

Police said they found four more suspected illegal aliens working in Ohio County.

Wheeling police said they detained the illegals after a traffic stop Tuesday morning.

Police said all four had fake identifications, but admitted to being in the United States illegally.

The men were in Ohio County because the sheriff said they were working as bricklayers at the Cheddars at the Highlands site.

The Ohio County sheriff said he already received calls about the illegal aliens, but when he checked on them this weekend, they showed documents, which he said later proved to be fake.

Sheriff Tom Burgoyne said this latest bust is unique.

“This is really the first time that we've had a case that we've had skilled labor in Ohio County being performed by somebody who really doesn't fit our skill level as far as I'm concerned. And they're illegal," he said.

A representative for West Virginia State Building Trades went before the Ohio County Commission Tuesday night and said requiring building permits would stop contractors from hiring illegal aliens.

"One of the ways to help is to implement some kind of process where they can keep a paper trail on these people," said Walter Larue, a Fair Contracting Representative.

All four are being held in the Northern Regional Jail. Immigrations and Customs Enforcement agents have been notified.
