Crews were out spraying for mosquitoes on Wednesday night in Chester, W.Va.Some residents told NEWS9 they’re seeing more mosquitoes this season than ever before. As the sun went down in Chester, crews got ready to battle mosquitoes.Workers from Adapco Vectro Control Services met up to map out their route. They were preparing to get rid of several Ochlerostatus Dorsalis, also known as a Pale Marsh Mosquito.Specialist Brian Bruno said they're out in full force.“It's a very aggressive mosquito,” said Bruno. “They're a mammal biter, biting people, biting horses, biting cows, a pain in the neck."Some local people agreed, and said the mosquitoes are out of control."You could just ride along through the field and you'd be swatting here and there and everywhere,” said resident Patty Hillyard.Bruno showed NEW9 crews the sprayers."We have an ultra low-volume fogger,” said Bruno. “It puts out a very low amount of chemical."The trucks headed off to Chester and Lawrenceville to mist the streets.Pale marsh mosquitoes are typically found in western states, like California, but after testing in Hancock County, Bruno told NEWS9 he found the highest concentration of those mosquitoes here at Little Blue Run Disposal Area in Chester.Bruno said no one knows how the Pale Marsh Mosquitoes got into West Virginia, but said he's glad he could help get them out.Bruno said the pesticide that crews used Wednesday night was a natural pesticide that's derived from a South African flower.Bruno said it is not harmful to humans or animals.Natalie Pasquarella, NEWS9
