Students Remember Deputy Killed In ATV Crash

At a graduation ceremony, Wheeling Park High School students honored an Ohio County sheriff's deputy who was killed in an all-terrain vehicle crash.

The ceremony was held at Wesbanco Arena on Sunday.

Students said Ron Meyer was always there for them and kept them safe as a resource officer at the school and he will be missed.

Anthony Decrease said, "I think it's going to be kind of weird to not see him there. I definitely expected him to be there. He'd be one of the first people I think would be at a major event like this one for the school."

On Saturday the off-duty deputy was pulling equipment with his ATV, lost control and was thrown from the vehicle.

He was pronounced dead at Wheeling Hospital.

The West Virginia State Police said the investigation is finished, but they are not releasing any details on how the crash happened.
