Man Accused Of Beating Dog To Death During Robbery

A man with a criminal history is accused of robbing a Jefferson County home and beating the family's dog to death.Neil Rager, 22, of Rayland, was arrested Wednesday on suspicion of beating the beagle to death with a lead pipe while it was chained up in the garage.Police said Rager is also accused of stealing an ATV and chainsaw.According to Sheriff Fred Abdalla, a 17-year-old female is accused of being an accomplice. Abdalla said the girl was bragging to classmates about the robbery and the beating.Abdalla said Rager has a criminal history and served two years in prison.Both suspects are in police custody.
