COLLIERS, W. Va. -- Dan Walsh of Colliers had hoped to know by now whether his long-lasting eye problems were related to the recall of a contact lens solution this week.

After visiting two separate hospitals and undergoing a battery of tests, Walsh still doesn't know.

Walsh first became concerned he may be suffering from Acanthamoeba Keratitis after seeing a story about the recall of AMO's Complete Moisture Plus lens solution on NEWS9 this week.

Walsh had been using that solution exclusively since he got a new set of contact lenses early in 2007. A sample of the recalled solution came in a starter kit he received with those lenses.

Prior to hearing about the recall, Walsh believed he was suffering from a persistent case of pinkeye. Several antibiotic treatments failed to clear up the problem.

Tuesday morning, Walsh returned to his local emergency room and mentioned that he had been using the recalled solution.

Local doctors referred him to specialists in Pittsburgh who were eager to beging examining Walsh's case.

"They were waiting for me when I arrived in Pittsburgh and they were very eager to see me," said Walsh.

Walsh said his doctors in Pittsburgh have opted to treat him with stronger optical medication, but if his symptoms return they want to do a biopsy that will determine whether he has been infected.

The Centers for Disease Control are investigating more than a hundred suspected cases of Acanthamoeba Keratitis.

Symptoms include redness, pain, the sensation of having something in the eye and blurred vision.

Walsh says he is suffering from all of these symptoms.
