BELLAIRE, Ohio -- Cheryl Holloway runs a dog-grooming business out of her home, and Tuesday night when she went in the basement to check on things after the storm, raw sewage was flowing through the drains -- filling up the entire floor.

Wednesday, Holloway had to close her grooming business. She told NEWS9 she normally grooms about 10 pets per day, and had to turn them all away.

"I can't be in there with raw sewage. You can't have it. It has to be clean, it has to be sanitized. It has to be safe for my customers and their dogs," said Holloway.

She may also have to turn away family members who were planning on staying there for an upcoming reunion.

Holloway said several years ago the same thing happened. Bellaire village officials helped her out then, and are stepping in again.

The village administrator paid for crews to come in Wednesday night to spray and box up contaminated items.

The administrator acknowledged there are some problems with sanitary drains and storm drains being connected.

"A watch valve would probably be very helpful. I'd like to see one installed for this location and one down further. I think it would be very helpful. We're more than willing to work with her and help rectify the situation," said Village Administrator Rebecca Zwack.

Holloway told NEWS9 the last time her basement flooded with raw sewage, the damage was estimated at about $3,500. The village compensated her with about $2,000 then.

The village said they plan on investigating the problem, and will turn the damages into their insurance company. Holloway said she plans to attend Thursday night's village council meeting for more answers.
