A man was airlifted to a Pittsburgh hospital after crashing his ATV Saturday afternoon near Beech Bottom in Brooke County.

Investigators said they are not releasing his identity at this time because they are waiting to notify his family.

Vince Galloway was out in his yard near Beech Bottom Saturday afternoon when an ATV rider came flying by, frantic.

"He came up so fast out of the road we knew something was wrong. I don't know if this guy was with the guy that got hurt, but he knew he needed help," said Galloway.

Investigators said both men were riding in a heavily wooded area near Hartley Hill Road when one rider's ATV came back on top of him.

"It came on top of him. We don't know if he flipped it, but it came to rest on top of him and pinned him," said Beech Bottom Fire Chief Roger Coulter.

"We heard the ambulances and the sirens coming in and the guy flew back out and the next thing I heard, they were going to airlift him," said Galloway.

Rescue crews actually had to get on ATVs to get back to the victim. They said they had a tough time stabilizing him before flying him out by medical helicopter.

"He did have a helmet on which is very rare, so hopefully that will help," said Coulter.

The victim was flown to UPMC hospital in Pittsburgh. The Brooke County Sheriff's Department is not releasing any further information about his condition or identity.
