On the outside, Codey St. John looks like every other 7-year-old. His favorite food is steak. He dreams of playing football for the Bellaire Big Reds, then the Buckeyes -- then the Steelers. But for more than a year, Codey has been in and out of chemotherapy. He's gone through a 10-hour surgery and is taking part in a trial study all in hopes of fighting neuroblastoma, a rare form of cancer.Because of that, living like a regular boy has been difficult for Codey and his family. And the only treatment that may help Codey and other children like him costs upwards of $2 million. The family's hope lies in the form of an antibody from the white blood cells of mice. Now, Codey's father is taking measures into his own hands in hopes of gaining national support by biking cross country to raise the funds necessary to obtain that treatment."There's a great possibility to humanize this antibody, and it could really help a lot of the other kids and the kids that have already built a resistance to the current antibody," said Rick St. John.St. John and several other parents fighting the same battle are putting their pedals to the pavement by biking 3,700 miles cross country. They will start in Sacramento, Calif., then head to Washington, D.C., in hopes of raising awareness and support along the way."We're going to give it a shot. It's not going to be easy, but to think of what these kids go through, it's nothing," St. John said. "It's definitely not the cure that we want, but research has shown that this could buy a lot more time with these kids. That's what is most precious."For more information about the journey, see the links at the right of this page.-Renee Cardelli & Jackie Cain, NEWS9
