Internet Safety, Local Group Helps Parents Protect Their Kids

Keeping your children safe on the Internet can be difficult. However, a local network security group now has some tips to help you monitor your kids online. "We've taken off a small chunk of the problem and said, 'here's the basics, here's where you can start,'" said Futures Inc. Security Analyst Terry Bradley.

Futures Inc. is hosting a class Monday night for parents across the Ohio Valley.

It's designed to make you aware of online risks, and help you monitor your kids. Because, as a parent, you may feel like Holli Smith - who said it's time to wake up. "I think we've got to get with it. I think the computer's where it's happening - kids are studying on the computer, communicating, they're learning about so many things. But, I think we adults have to catch up," Smith said.

Bradley, host of the course Monday night, says he's seen two types of parents: "One are completely unaware and unconcerned, and the other are concerned but they maybe don't know what to do."

He said no matter what category you fall into, he's prepared to give you the starter tools needed to better protect your kids. "I think once they see the real danger out there they'll realize they need to take some action," Bradley said.

"My children are older, but I'll have grandchildren someday,” Smith said, “and I need to get up on technology too." And if you missed Monday night’s class, there will be another class this coming Sunday, Sept. 16th, from 6-8 p.m. at Individual Practice Association, Inc. in St. Clairsville, Ohio.
