Harrison Hills Teachers Issue Strike Notice

POSTED: 6:22 pm EDT September 12, 2007
UPDATED: 11:06 am EDT September 13, 2007

Harrison Hills superintendent Jim Drexler said he will keep schools open with substitutes if teachers walk out on Oct. 1.

On Wednesday, Harrison Hills Teachers' Association spokeswoman Linda Rusen said their negotiation team issued at 10-day strike notice.

Teachers submitted the strike notice saying they were frustrated by "stubborn stalling techniques" by the school board and superintendent.

Rusen said the school board offered the same proposal the teachers turned down on Monday, prompting negotiators to set the notice.

Drexler said the union's proposals put the district's financial health in jeopardy.

A federal mediator met with both sides on Monday in an attempt to resolve issues, but there was no settlement. No future talks had been scheduled as of Thursday morning.
