Thief Uses Stolen Check To Buy $800 In Cigarettes

Police in West Virginia and Pennsylvania are searching for a man who bought $800 worth of cigarettes using a stolen check.

Weirton police said a clerk at Gumby's called the person listed on the check and realized what had happened.

Police said the man broke into a home in Robinson Township, Pa., on Sept. 14 and stole a checkbook. On Monday, he used one of those checks to buy a box of cigarettes.

The burglar is described as a white man, wearing black clothing and in his early 40s or 50s with tattoos on both arms.

Detective Rob Alexander said police aren't sure if the man wrote out any more checks. Alexander said the suspect will be charged in Weirton for using stolen checks and in Robinson Township for burglary.
