A local nursing home at the center of a sexual assault investigation has closed, even though the state did not require it.

Just one resident remained at the of Dora Allietta Memorial Home on Thursday, officials said. The remaining residents were removed from the nursing home's care by family members after the allegations surfaced.

Adult Protective Services launched an investigation after police received a report of a sexual assault at the home over the weekend. The alleged victim is a 57-year-old woman with the mental capacity of a child, police said.

Roy Sheldon, 22, remains in jail on charges of sexual assault, sexual abuse and indecent exposure. Officials said Sheldon is expected to have a preliminary hearing within 10 days.

Moundsville police Sgt. Bill Helms said an adult probation services worker visited the home for a routine check when the resident told her of the allegations.
