Harrison Hills Teachers, Board Fail To Reach Contract Agreement

Harrison Hills teachers still had not reached a contract agreement with the school district as of Thursday morning.

The teachers union has said teachers will strike if a deal is not reached by Monday.

Linda Rusen, spokeswoman for the Harrison Hills Teachers Association, said negotiations Wednesday night "did not go well. The proposal that (the district) came back with was not what we anticipated at all."

Rusen also said the association filed an unfair labor practice against the school board, claiming Superintendent Jim Drexler revealed the proposal to a local newspaper.

Drexler said he was disappointed that an agreement had not been reached.

"I figured there would've been movement, but we're not there yet," he said.

The board and teachers will go back to the bargaining table on Friday. Many teachers said they also plan to meet prior to the board's regularly scheduled meeting Thursday at 7 p.m.
