Game Of The Week Canceled Due To Teacher Strike

Thursday, October 4, 2007 – updated: 11:52 pm EDT October 4, 2007

Buckeye Local told News 9 they received word of the cancellation of Friday's game against Harrison this past Wednesday.

Superintendent Mark Miller said, for the most part, staff and students were expecting the game to be called off.

The game was canceled because of the teacher strike in Harrison County.

No one wins or loses the game. It goes down as a nongame, meaning now Buckeye will have a roster of nine games, not 10.

"We have actively tried to find another game, but as everyone knows with high school football it's very difficult to find a game. You know a lot of times you're schedule two to three years in advance," said Superintendent Mark Miller.

Miller said Buckeye is disappointed, but they understand the reasoning behind the cancellation.

The Harrison versus Buckeye matchup was set to be WTOV Nine's game of the week, but now the big game is Martins Ferry versus Indian Creek.
