Superintendent Reacts To Substitute Never Being Hired
A substitute teacher at Harrison Hills City Schools was never hired by the school district, said Superintendent Jim Drexler.Drexler told NEWS9 Frederick Saunders, who was arrested last week in connection with hitting a picketer with his car, should have never been allowed to step in the junior high in the first place.Drexler said at this point he is not even sure Saunders is a teacher at all.Drexler said the school is trying to find out how this happened.“We are not exactly sure how he got into the building. That's under investigation at this point. We are checking with teachers that were in that building that day checking with the principal and the sheriff's office is even investigating. We are looking for exactly how he got into the building,” said Drexler.Drexler said he did not come to the junior high school on the required security van for substitute teachers.Drexler said the school has tightened security. Now all teachers on the list are required to show the principal their identification so they can verify that they are allowed in the school.Drexler wants to assure parents that the students are safe and the school is doing their best to make sure this does not happen again.
