Indian Creek Won't Cross Picket Line To Play Football, Superintendent Says

Wednesday, October 10, 2007 – updated: 3:12 pm EDT October 10, 2007

Indian Creek Superintendent Gene Watkins said if Harrison Hills teachers are still on the picket lines on Friday, his students will not be heading there to play football.

An official decision about whether Harrison Central will be ready to play ball is now expected Thursday from Harrison Hills Superintendent Jim Drexler. However, Watkins said if they do plan to play, he won't send his Indian Creek students into an atmosphere like that.

The strike is affecting several other local schools on the football schedule in terms of points. Martins Ferry and Shenandoah could receive about half of the points they normally would because of Harrison Central's situation.

Union Local could be directly affected if it doesn't play its game against Harrison Central in a few weeks because it will be hoping for a win to improve its record.

If Harrison Central wants to see a shot at the playoffs, the Huskies must win their last two games.

A federal mediator has scheduled another negotiating session to try to resolve the strike for Thursday at the Harrison County Courthouse in Cadiz at 1 p.m.
