Weirton Woman Accused Of Selling Drugs In Front Of Daughter

A Weirton woman had her young daughter in tow while she tried to sell drugs, undercover police said.

The arrest was part of an ongoing investigation, which resulted in the confiscation of more than $2,000 in methadose wafers. Methadose is a higher dose of methadone.

Mendi Antigo, 38, was charged with delivery of a controlled substance and child neglect.

Antigo is accused of selling methadose wafers from her home on Gullette Lane in Weirton. Police said they had been investigating Antigo for weeks after allegations that she was distributing the wafers to various people throughout the city.

Detective Ricky Grishkevich said when police made contact with Antigo, she had her 8-year-old daughter along with her on a drug transaction.

Police arrested her in the parking lot of the Kroger grocery store on Main Street on Friday.

"The courts do take (into consideration) the seriousness of her bringing her child with her during this drug transaction, so they will take it as a serious felony," said Grishkevich.

He said police are glad they were able to stop methadose from being sold because it's hard to prove people are abusing legitimate prescriptions. He said selling methadose is not a growing problem, but police want to make sure they do everything to stop it before it becomes a problem.
