The Jefferson County Health Department is considering new restrictions at the Apex Landfill. For more than a year, the landfill has tried to control a strong odor that local residents said is not getting better.Health department officials said they want to scale back how much garbage the landfill can take in.Bruce Misselwitz said the department is looking at closing on Sunday and limiting tonnage per day."We don't want them working 24/7 with large tonnage and not control the odor," Misselwitz said.He said the EPA-sanctioned contract is up for renewal in November and said landfill operators are working hard to control the odor by using misters and deodorizers.Stay with NEWS9 and WTOV9.com for continuing coverage.-Renee Cardelli & Shelby Zarotney, NEWS9
