Investigators said on Wednesday that the DNA from a sexual assault in Kentucky matches the DNA from the rape of a North Wheeling girl.

On Feb. 20, one day before her 12th birthday, a girl was walking with a friend in North Wheeling when a man grabbed her and put her in his truck.

The rapist has short, dark hair and a thin mustache. He is about 5 feet 8 inches tall and has a braided chain or barbed wire tattoo on the upper portion of his left arm.

In Wheeling, the attacker took the child to the grounds of the Jubilee Christian Center on National Road, near exit 14 of Interstate 70 in St. Clairsville, where she was raped, investigators said.

The child was later released by her attacker on the 200 block of Bennett Street in Bridgeport. Police said the entire timeline of the crime was less than an hour.

The Kentucky rape happened in August 2006 in Leitchfield, about 400 miles from Wheeling. Police said the man struck up a conversation with a 30-year-old woman who was holding a yard sale, left for a short time, then returned to her home and raped her.

A neighbor of the Kentucky victim told investigators the suspect left in a red sport utility vehicle. In Wheeling, the rapist was believed to have been driving a dark-colored, extended cab pickup truck.

In both cases, the rapist started by asking the victim questions. In Wheeling, he asked for directions; in Kentucky, he inquired about furniture the victim was selling.

Investigators said it is clear the suspect continues to take risks and said they hope he is caught before he assaults another victim. They said while the rapist might not live in either city, he is clearly familiar with both.

The reward for the arrest and conviction of the attacker is $17,870. Anyone with information is asked to call 800-CALL-FBI.
