Edison Local Teachers May Strike

Teachers are prepared to strike if they can't strike a deal soon with the Edison Local School District.

Jamie Evans, spokeswoman for the teachers union, said the union is willing to talk but the board is not budging from their final offer. Evans said at 12:01 am Wednesday teachers will be on the picket lines unless a contract agreement can be reached.

Evans said the board's final offer calls for 6 percent salary increases over three years, but with the health care concessions most of the teachers would be talking pay cuts.

Officials said 140 teachers in the Edison Local School District have been working without a contract since June 14.

No one from the board would comment on the contract situation. Stay with NEWS9 and WTOV9.com for continuing coverage.
