Video Surveillance Of Edison Picketers Released By Board

Thursday, November 8, 2007 – updated: 1:06 am EST November 9, 2007

Tensions on the picket lines show no signs of letting up.

Video shot by IMAC Security guards shows picketers blocking cars from getting into schools, setting up a barricade against the milk truck trying to make a delivery, even blocking the school buses in which the students were riding and stamping them with stickers.

The video surveillance showed heated moments of shouting and fighting -- all scenes the school board said are hurting the students.

"I can just imagine what the students are thinking to see their teachers behaving in such a fashion. It's inexcusable, inexcusable," said Superintendent Lisa Carmichael.

The video also showed nails found in the roadway where teachers has been picketing. The video doesn’t prove that teachers put them there, but it’s more reason the school board said they are looking to the courts for help.

"We're asking the court to hear us tomorrow morning. We’re asking for a restraining order to restrict the behavior we're observing," said Carmichael.

NEWS9 asked union spokesperson Jamie Evans if we could show him the video we obtained and get his reaction. He wasn't able to meet with us but did release a statement.

"If any of our teachers have been out of line on the picket lines, it has clearly been the result of being provoked by the district's hired thugs. Our teachers wish for nothing more than to be peacefully in front of their classrooms providing quality education,” said Evans.

Friday morning there will be a hearing regarding the restraining order the school is trying to impose.

NEWS9 also got word that parents will be holding a rally at Stanton Junior High Friday morning.
