Video Shows Edison School Board Altercation

A video released by the Edison Local School Board on Wednesday shows an altercation on the picket line that left one teacher injured.

School board officials released the video because they said they want the public to form their own opinions of what they see.

In the video shot by IMAC Security, teachers are shown barricading cars and Superintendent Lisa Carmichael is seen entering the school.

As an IMAC bus arrives, teachers pound and kick it. Soon after, Moses was on the ground with what police said was a visible leg injury.

The teacher, Nate Moses, was transported to an area hospital for treatment, and Saline Township police said they are investigating whether to file aggravated assault charges against the bus driver.

School Board president Sue Taylor said, "The actions by some members of the ELEA and/or its affiliates, who are represented by John Avouris, Labor Relations Consultant, will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law by the Edison Local Board of Education."

The police chief said they have conflicting statements and said the case has not been forwarded to the prosecutor yet.

The video was filmed before court-ordered restrictions were placed on the picketers.

New talks were set to begin Wednesday between the teachers' union and the board, but they have been postponed until Friday at 4 p.m. at the Jefferson County Courthouse.

Also on Wednesday, a note went out to parents saying students will be held accountable if they don't go to school starting on Monday. Initially, the school district allowed parents to sign up so that their children would be excused during the strike.

The district said all absences by students must be for excused reasons such as illness or family issues only.
